📣Where are our Sweatshirts?- Unilorite writes Observation:
A 300 level Student of the faculty of communications and information science of the University of Ilorin, Mr. Akeukanwo Sulaiman has written an open letter to the President of the Students' Union, Com. Alao Idris Ibrahim (Observation). The letter dated Monday, 18th April 2016, was exclusively obtained by Unilorin Weekly correspondents.
The Student's letter bothered on various breaches of the Students' Union constitution by the Observation-led administration, the poor state of some toilet facilities on Campus, the Sweat shirts, and an appeal for about 108 students been investigated by the University for admission breaches.
While citing article 10F item 5 of the constitution, the writer queried the President on why his administration has not published the state of the Union's account as clearly stated in the constitution. Also invoking article 5 of the same constitution, he wondered why the administration is yet to hold Ordinary Congresses for both First and Second semesters, in his words: "Why is the Congress been side-lined?".
Citing Article 20D item 2 of the constitution, the Student queried the administration, on why Unilorites have not been availed of the approved budget of his administration as clearly enunciated in the constitution. He also berated the state of some toilet facilities on Campus, especially the Bukateria which he said that: "A dead man will come to live if he visits the place". On the sweat shirts, he wondered why the Students are yet to get the Sweat shirts, they have paid for about 6 months ago, Where are our Sweatshirts? he queried.
Finally, on the 108 matriculated students that are currently been investigated by the Students' Disciplinary Committee for admission breaches. He appealed to the President, to appeal on behalf of the Students, and possibly get them sanctions that are favourable at the end of the day. Unilorin Weekly appreciates the Writer for airing his views in an objective way, and hence charges the President to respond to various issues raised in the letter. We promise to keep you informed as events unfold.
📣Harmattan Semester CBT results released:
The much awaited Computer Based Test Results for the 2015/2016 Harmattan semester has been released.
The results, Unilorin Weekly gathered were fully released on Monday, 18th April 2016. Though many students have been finding it difficult to check the results, due to network hitches, and traffic on the University's portal. While speaking with some students who have checked their results, it was noticed that, the performance of Students have been very poor compared to previous sessions.
Some students have even raised eyebrows on their results. "How is it possible to have a 45% grade in all my courses?" is that a co-incidence or what? A student questioned. "How can I have about 25% in my Continuous assessment, and then about 20% in the exam? It's really amazing and strange", another queried.
While Unilorin Weekly cannot confirm these accusations, we can report that the 45% pass mark for all fresh students has been effected, as it has been noticed in all the results seen so far by our correspondents.
📣My days as the D.S.A were the most exciting- Prof. Omotesho:
The immediate past Dean of the Students' Affairs Unit of the University of Ilorin, Prof. O.A Omotesho has described the 41 months he spent as the Dean of Students' Affairs as the most exciting days out of the 32 years he has spent in the University. He stated this, during the send-forth ceremony organised by the Students' Affairs unit to honour him.
In his words: "I enjoyed working in the Students' Affairs unit, and I want to thank my sub-dean who made the job easier." The former DSA who is now the Director of Academic Planning of the University, described the unit as the heartbeat of the University, and also called upon the staff of the unit to continue improving themselves and also give in their all to the University.
📣We must be aware of all Association's activities- Students' Affairs Unit insists:
The Students' Affairs Unit of the University of Ilorin has issued some new directives to all clubs, associations and organisations on Campus. These directives were issued during a meeting with the Presidents and General Secretaries of the afore-mentioned at the auditorium basement on Monday, 18th April 2016.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Talabi during the meeting intimated the associations' executives on the rules binding carrying out activities on Campus. He insisted that since the Students' Union encompasses all students on Campus, no association's programmes should clash with theirs.
