STORY: WHAT WENT WRONG (Episode 2)

Poor Mwansa cried for help, she was battling with unknown forces. If only she had a clue of what she was up against. What was this mystery surrounding these happenings. The whole compound was in total light as if it was in the woo hours of the morning. With prayers and holy water her grandmother managed to shovel away the mysterious force. The big ream of fire suddenly disappeared in thin air.
For the first time in her Mwansa was very scared. When she was free to move, she ran inside the hut..
"Granny whats going on?"
"Nothing my child let's kneel down and pray."
(Mediapronounce ng)
They knelt down to pray, as granny prayed Mwansa had one eye opened staring at her granny. This woman is now getting on my nerves, she was attacked this afternoon and didnt say anything, the same thing is just from happening to me and all she say is pray. Definitely prayer should be one of them but what am I praying against. Dont I deserve to know what it is that is doing all this and why its doing all this. After praying, they tucked on their small bed made of logs and grass. " Whatever happens please remain strong, don't mind about what you saw today. That's just the work of the devil. Dont satisfy his desires, you are a child of the most high God. Children of God are not afraid of anything, the almighty father above is always looking after them", said granny.
Early in the morning when Mwansa woke up, her granny was not on the other side of the bed. Considering all that was going on, she jumped from the bed, she went outside. She saw her in the field from a far. "Mama", she called out for granny as she walked to help with whatever she doing.
"l'm over here plucking pumpkin leaves."
"Good morning granny."
"Good morning my child."
"Why are you doing this, you would have woken me up to do it"
"Wachiba mutulo."
"Still you would have woken me up."
They plucked the pumpkin leaves together while chatting. Mwansa was still eager to ask her grandmother about what happened the previous night, seeing her granny in a good mood and all smiley, she didn't want to ruin her mood.
"When you are done with the dishes , go to Mr Chikopela's shop and buy a bottle of cooking oil and a pack of kapenta."
"Ok mama."
"Before I forget get some fritters."
"What about sugar? We ran out of sugar yesterday."
"Buy 1kg of sugar."
" I'm on it."
She hurried doing the dishes, it was already 10 o'clock in the morning, her granny had not yet had her breakfast. When she was finished with the dishes, she went inside the house, got a paper bag. On her way to Mr Chikopela's shop, she met Chilufya.
"Early in the morning, of all people I have to meet you. What in the world have I done, I'm sure there are people out there worth meeting not iweh."
"Mweiche iweh imimpoto pakanya fulu fulu."
"The last time I checked I was talking to myself."
"You talk to yourself when you see me?"
"Why are you wasting time responding."
"You are so stubborn."
"See the bully is talking."
"See the mini bully is responding."
"I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the trees."
"Who said I was responding to you, I was talking to the road."
"Atase Chilufya walitumpa sana."
"Ehh ehh what have I done now."
"Just go."
"Go where."
"Just pass and go your way."
"You think I'm here for you, sorry but I'm here for my grandmother."
"Ohhh ok then let me pass."
"Hello excuse me its not as if I have stopped you, ain't you using your legs not mine so bounce."
"You are the most annoying human being in this world, I hate everything about you."
"They all say that, hearing it from the horse's mouth doesn't make it different."
"You say your grandmother is fetching firewood, why ain't you helping her instead you are here picking fights."
"Yes my grandmother is fetching fire wood but she wanted to do it herself, she asked me to wait here."
"Mwe Lesa why I'm I even wasting my time talking to you, I have things to do. Unlike you who doesn't help your grandmother, I help mine."
"That's nice of you but my grandmother is not complaining."
(Mediapronounce ng)
"You are so insensitive, I wonder how your grandmother puts up with you."
"Look who is talking? What are you still doing here, ain't you suppose to go where your dearest granny sent you."
"I can't stand you."
"Who said I can."
Do people in the city behave like this? The village people are so dull, take Chilufya for instance. The guy is good at nothing except bulling and picking fights. Men here spend their time at mama Defao's tarven while women go to the fields to work with children on their back. The men don't work, they drink every day. Where they get the money for beer only God knows. I guess people in the city are different, there are big schools, big houses, big cars and big churches atleast that's what I have heard from people who traveled there.
At Mr Chikopela's katemba Mwansa bought all that her grandmother sent her to buy, she received a lollipop as mbasela. She was very happy as she had been craving for that lollipop. Thank you so much sir she said as she was leaving. She hoped not to bump into Chilufya on her way back. To her surprise Chilufya was still at the same spot she left him.
"Wow woww look who is back its the obedient child herself."
" l'm going to pretend I didn't hear that."
"Pretend all you can bet you heard though."
"I think you should go in the bush and look for your grandmother, don't you think something might have happened to her."
"Just carry your bones and go."
"I'm just concerned."
"I see that lollipop in your mouth is making you grow wings."
"Too bad, even the lollipop in my mouth is a big deal, I know you."
"You know me? How wonderful."
"You are probably thinking of how to get this lollipop from me."
"Hahahaha what makes you think I can get that which has entered your stinking mouth."
"Hahahaha not funny I know how you are envying this lollipop, you wishing it was in your mouth."
"Anything that passes through your mouth even a rat would refuse to eat it whether it's chicken or meat."
"I think you are wasting time arguing with me, go look for your grandmother."
Before Mwansa could finish her sentence, Chilufya's grandmother emerged from the bush holding on to her walking stick, funny she had no firewood or anything with her.
"Gogo mwapwisha."
"What are you doing with this cursed child."
"Mulishani gogo."
"Fuseki kolwe don't waste your siliva on me wemwana wandoshi iweh."
Gogo shouted at Chilufya for talking to Mwansa. She was so furious, she gave Mwansa a red eye. Poor girl ran for her life.
•Why is that everything about me seem so mysterious. No one from my village allows their children to play with me. What is it about my family that everyone is afraid of. With yesterday's escapees could it be that my grandmother is hiding something from me. Ohh Lord don't tell me my granny is a witch. Nah nah my granny can't be a witch, she is a prayer warrior. She goes to church every Sunday, she gets along with the priest. Had she been a with, the priest wouldn't come closer to her but why did Chilufya's granny refer to me as child of a witch. I hate this, my granny will explain things today, she has to give answers to all pending questions that I have•
Mwansa walked home with a sad face, the minute she got home her grandmother noticed that something was wrong with her.
"How is Mr Chikopela?"
"He is fine, he sent his regards."
"Thank you but why are you upset."
" Nah I'm not"
"You do realize I was born a long time, I know when a person is angry, happy, disturbed, depressed so don't lie to me."
"I met bana kulu Chilufya."
"What happened."
"She found me talking to her grandson, it seems that angered her, she scolded Chilufya for talking to me in my presence."
"Old age isn't doing my friend a favor, she is becoming worse."
"She called you a witch."
"Don't mind what that bitter old lady said to you."
"The next time she disrespects you, I will flog her."
They were still talking when Chilufya's grandmother walked in their compound. She was ranting threats.
"Hurry go inside," said granny but why Mwansa replied. "Just go," commanded granny, Mwansa refused and stood firm.
"Warn your grand daughter to stay away from my grandson."
"Go away, leave my yard this instance."
"Dont say I never warned you."
"What will you do."
"You know me better."
"You can't do anything, I trust in the Lord he that created the heaven and earth."
"Try me and see if that your God will do anything to save you."
"Get out of my compound, you get bitter by day."
"I will go but warn that cursed thing of yours."
"She is not cursed, its your grandson who is cursed."
"You are the one who cursed him."
"I know you very well, you can cheat the entire village not me."
"If you know me then you know what I'm capable of doing."
"You are capable of anything but not hurting that which is close to me, I will deal with you personally."
•What's with these two? Do they know each other from somewhere. As far as I'm concerned granny know a few people from this village. Why are they exchanging words as if they know each other. These two seem to have a history together, whatever it is only God knows•
