STORY : WHAT WENT WRONG (Episode 3)

"Granny why do you spare this woman? You need to put her in her place," yelled Mwansa. Report her to the village headman for threats she was mumbling. Remember the last time you had a confrontation with her at the well. She reported you to the village elders and they fined you. Why don't you do the same to her?

"No my child vengeance belongs to God."
"Vengeance belongs to God kwisa, leave God to solve other problems. This is a small issue that requires us to use the five senses God gave us."
"Don't do evil for evil."
"It's not doing evil for evil, we ought to tell that bitter old hag to burn in hell."
"You heard her, please stay away from her grandson."
"Ohhh please she should be the one to tell her grandson to stay away from me."
"Don't respond when he talks to you."
"You know how of a bully that boy is, that's why the entire village hates him."
"We don't want trouble, stay away."
"I will stay away but if he comes looking for trouble, I will give it to him."
"Forget him, he is not worthy it"
"Granny that boy is as stubborn as his grandmother."
Enough of those two, the witch said all she had to say. She has gone, can we go back to our lives Mwansa said as she took a deep sigh.
She prepared tea for her and granny. They enjoyed the tea with laughter later Mwansa prepared lunch but they were both stuffed, they kept the food for supper. Mwansa went to fetch water for her granny's bath.
On her way she met the witch's grandson, she passed him without a word, he stood in front of her and poked her nose. She moved away and continued walking, the bully was not yet done. He stood in her way, Mwansa tried to move to the other side of the road, he stopped her.
"Why don't you want talk to me? Are you still upset with what my granny said."
"Look I don't want problems with your grandmother."
"Come on don't mind my old lady, old age is not doing her well."
"Look whether old age is killing your grandmother or not I don't care."
"I came here waiting for you, I knew you would pass through."
"Do me a favor when you get home, tell your grandmother that I don't follow you around it's the other way round."
"I said sorry."
"I heard your sorry, I'm not deaf mind you."
"Does that mean we can still be friends."
"Were we even friends?"
"Ok let's be friends, our grandmothers won't know a thing, it will be our little secret."
"Boy listen to me and listen very carefully, I can never go against my grandmother."
"Who will tell her, this our little secret."
"My grandmother's words were loud and clear 'Mwansa keep away from that boy."
"Shame you are difficult to convince, I'm starting to think old is slowly catching up with you as well"
"If you want to go against your grandmother, that's your cross so carry it on your own."
"What's so difficult here you want us to be going fourth about the same thing until someone sees us?"
"Exactly!!! Take your diagrams elsewhere."
"Jezzzz you are so stubborn."
"Oya bounce."

Wonder why some people are so stubborn, his grandmother almost dropped hell at my place and here he is asking to be my friend. Some people really love trouble. My granny and I are peaceful people and that's what we preach, we stay away from people and things that bring about problems.
Mwansa got to the well, she found some girls her age fetching water. She stood some meters away from them. She wanted to say hi but she debated about it. Curiosity killed a cat, she finally said hi. They all looked at each other and kept quiet. None of them answered back. This made Mwansa sad, what is life when the whole world doesn't want to talk to you.
She waited for the girls to finish fetching water, when they were done. They helped each other and left. Mwansa fetched water and climbed her favorite tree. She got on top and sat on her favorite spot singing her favorite song " Chibuse Chiweme", this song is her healing remedy. Whenever she she is sad, she sings this song and according to her the song did wonders, it takes away all the pain and sorrow. She looked at the pole, she believed that it represented the city. She imagined the city to be full of people who get along and love one another. If only that was the case in the village, it would be a better place to live in.
"One of these days you will turn into a monkey, these tress that you like climbing."
"What are you doing here? Thought I told you to stay away from me."
"Sorry I followed you, don't worry my granny thinks am at Mr Chikopela's playing chess."
"I don't care where your grandmother thinks you are, l'm more concerned with myself here."
"Why are you talking like that?"
"Your grandmother is not my problem, you are my problem."
"I saw what happened here."
"What did you see?"
"You said hi to those girls and they didn't respond, I know how it felt."
"Ohhh that? Trust me that doesn't bother me at all."
"You and I are in the same shoes, the entire village don't talk to us, they want nothing to do with us for reasons best known to themselves."
"I don't know why they don't talk to me but I know why they don't talk you, who is not aware of your wayward behavior?"
"Okay I admit that l'm the black sheep of this community unlike you I don't have the urge or courage to get over my anger."
"That's none of my business deal with your anger issues."
"Look what those girls did to you, if its me they did that to I would have told them off."
"If people don't want you don't force them to."
"Please teach me how to be like you, you are so fragile from the outside yet strong inside."
"I owe everything and anything l'm to my grandmother, she has been my inspiration and pillar of strength."
"Wooww with mine its a different story."
"Ok that's got nothing to do with me."
"Do you mind sharing what you think about every time you get on top of that tree."
"I love to admire nature and everything it has to offer"
With that, Mwansa climbed down. She put the bucket of water on her head, she walked back home. On her way home, she sang to different songs.
She found her granny busy sewing a baby's sweater.
"What took you long my child?"
"I found some people washing, you know the rules?"
"You had to wait for them to finish?"
"Yes that's right."
"You are not yet done with that sweater?"
"Not yet, will be done next."
"Let me prepare some water for bathing."
"Thank you my child."
Mwansa finished preparing water for her grandmother, she went to take her bath. Mwansa was warming food, some plates fell down. She picked them up and put them back. She quickly ran outside because she thought she saw a black shadow heading towards the hut where her grandmother was bathing.
"Granny watch out something is headed your direction!"
"What is it my child?"
"I don't know but it looks like a shadow."
"Don't worry my child it's nothing you have started seeing things."
"Grandmother I'm sure I saw something, my eyes are not deceiving me."
"We are protected by the most high God, anything fashioned against us shall fall in Jesus's name."
The young lady had a tiresome day maybe she was imagining things, how was she imagining things when she clearly saw that shadow with her own naked eyes.
That night granny told her the story of two best friends who turned to enemies.
