STORY : WHAT WENT WRONG (Episode 8)
Life surprises you when you least expected it to.
Chanda walked majestically towards Muma and knelt before him. Chibuye was in disbelief. What was going on shocked her. Could it be a prank that Muma and Chanda played on her to test her love for him?
"Get behind me Satan!" Muma shouted at Chanda.
Chibuye was still calm watching everything.

Father I have never asked you for a favor. Please do whatever you can do to sort this whole madness before I loose my patience. As for you rascal you better find your way out before I find one for you. You tricked me into marrying you, Thank God I found out earlier. Leave my home in peace. I have married my woman, the love of my life.
"Ehhhhh! ehhhh! Don't talk to my daughter like that, your people came to my house to ask for her hand in marriage. You wasted our time in preparing her for marriage. Who do you think will marry her after the disgrace you have put her through. She is not going anywhere if anyone should leave. It should be your second wife.
What the hell! Chanda's mum is involved? This is serious. What in the world are these two blabbing about. Chanda is my best friend. Why would she want to ruin my marriage like this? Chibuye thought to herself.

"Shut up with that nonsense of first and second wife. I only married one woman. She is sitting next to me. Take this shameless concubine out of my face.
Muma held Chanda by the hand, he walked out on everyone, Chanda remained on her bended knees.
"Stop!" the village overseer commanded. "Come back and welcome your other wife."
"If you know what is good for you. Leave my home at once. On your way out carry your shame with you. As for you Chanda I have no words for you. You are too desperate for nothing."
"We will not go anywhere without finalizing everything." The village priest angrily said.
"Sorry to disappoint you but you have to leave, you heard everything my son said. If you came here to trouble my own I'm troubled too." replied Muma's father.
"My daughter will not go anywhere, she is here to stay" Chanda's mum replied while dragging Chanda to Muma.
"Mum please enough of this embarrassment. I will not sit here to be insulted. Let's go back home.
"Hold yourself Chanda. From now on this is your home." The village priest said.
Muma took Chibuye inside the house.
"What's going on here? Why is Chanda claiming to be your wife."
"My dear it's a complicated story."
"At least explain because whatever drama is going on here is confusing me.
"I don't want to stress you, we just got married. Let's enjoy our new life together."
"Enjoy? Did you say enjoy! How do you expect me to enjoy when there are forces everywhere. My best friend appeared from nowhere claiming she's your first wife. Where is the enjoyment in all this?"
"Calm down Chibuye I'm as shocked as you are. I don't understand a thing, this whole mistake was corrected. I don't know what went wrong."
"What mistake? Quit talking in parables."
"That day we met by the tree you remember what I told you right?"
"Yes I do?"
"You recall the necklace I gave you?"
"What has all that got to do with the issue at hand?"
Muma narrated the whole incident to Chibuye. Chibuye was surprised.
"That explains why Chanda was acting up. Her mother even chased me from her home accusing me of ruining her daughter's happiness."
"Forget it my dear. Don't stress yourself over stupid things. Chanda, the village priest and her mother will not succeed in breaking this beautiful bond we share."
"If you say so."
They were in the middle of their conversation when Chanda walked in. They both ignored her and continued talking.
"Excuse me! Where is my room?"
They both played dumb as though they didn't hear Chanda speak.
"Look I'm trying to make things simple for all of us. Quit the attitude."
"Chanda you are sick in the head so is your mother and the village priest. Your mother and the village priest should have done you a favor. That madness in you needs some neutralization. Instead of them wasting time bringing you here. They would have taken you to the shrine for cleansing."
"My husband whether you like or not, I'm your wife. The sooner you accept the better."
"It's funny how you are calling me hubby. The dirty stinking beggar that you insulted and disgraced is now your husband. Wake up from that terrible nightmare reality awaits you on the other side."
"Whatever you say we are already married. You cannot fight fate, Chibuye my friend ohhh should I say mayi nini let's work together to better our husband's home."
"Chibuye has one man who happens to have only one woman."
Muma walked out with his wife, he was very angry.
"Father you are the chief of seven great villages. Please do something about this mess. I won't tolerate anymore of this. If this go on, my wife and I will be forced to relocate to another chiefdom."
"My son it hasn't gotten to that, I will visit the village priest. We will talk things over."
"Father why do you have to visit him, just chase this girl out of here."
"I cannot do anything my son, my hands are tide. I rule all seven villages but the village priest has power over me."
"What powers?"
"He is the one who represents us to our gods."
"What gods? That crook is nothing but a lying cheap bustard, if you don't stop this nonsense. Don't blame me for what follows next."
Muma had come across problems, there was none he failed to solve. This one was tough, it was taking out the best of him. Could he be allowed to enjoy his moment for life."

Chanda never went back to her parents house. Her father came to pick her up, she refused to go with him. Muma and Chibuye continued living together. Chanda took any opportunity to get at Chibuye. She tolerated her, at some point Chibuye couldn't take it anymore. She went back to her parents house. Muma followed her, they both stayed at Chibuye's house. Chibuye fell pregnant, weeks later she had a miscarriage. She conceived a second time, the same thing happened. They went to the village priest he refused to help them. They went to church, Chibuye was prayed for. Everything went back to normal. She fell pregnant again, the pregnancy went on well, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The baby passed on after nine days.
Chibuye had enough, she asked Muma to go back to his parents. Muma went back to his parents, Chanda had never left Muma's home. One evening Muma was drank, Chanda seized the opportunity to drag him. She slept with him. Muma woke up next to Chanda, he was naked, Chanda had nothing on but a wrapper. Muma realized what happened. He pleaded with Chanda to keep it a secret. A month later on the day of Chibuye's return Chanda announced her pregnancy. Chibuye was very hurt and disappointed. She went back to her parents. They separated with Muma but he never stopped begging for Chibuye to take him back eventually they divorced. Years later Chibuye got married to another man. She bore him three kids, twin girls and a boy. One girl drowned. She was left with two.
The two best friends swore never to talk to each other.
Wow granny!! That's a very nice and touching story. I hate Chanda, she was very evil. I hope she repented her sins and asked for forgiveness from Chibuye.
"I don't know my child, only God knows."
Lightening stroke as they were chatting.
"Ohhh my God! Lightening this time? Granny this is the work of the devil."
