THE FUTURE IS HERE: VISIBLE OR NOT?

THE FUTURE IS HERE: VISIBLE OR NOT?

The future is here, bright and full of wonderful things but it is only visible to people with foresight. The future is closer to us than we can ever imagine, only people that are operating in the realm of vision actualisation can actually operate in it. Lets talk about the future! When is the future? The future is a time when academic first class graduates would be having a ten-ninety percentage ratio of employment opportunity.

A time that people that will matter most in the society would be the skilled personnels, personnels that are good in their various fields. A time that a school certificate maybe or maybe not rendered useless provided there is the required skill(s) in such individual(s).

Doubts? Some evidence of the presence of the future around us constitute the mass retrenchment of workers in various work places, a situation whereby people are being replaced by technology, a perfect example is the ATM in banks. With time, technology would take over most activities of workers in the bank as it is already happening.

Another evidence like that can be seen in some places of work that would request for some specific skills before they can employ applicants. This has gone a long way in shortlisting names of applicants that would be considered employment and many more cases in the developing societies.

Are the academic certificates now useless? Obviously yes and no! In such a country like Nigeria where some graduates can hardly practice what has been learnt in school as a result of what? Lack of practical learning! Now, this factor has made some Nigerians to not be fully equipped up to the level that some firms require for employment consideration. In spite of this effect, some personnels are the determinant of the future and are those that are actually taking the relevance position in the future we are talking about.

The technology that is been used in banks and other places that makes use of evolving and emerging technologies are designed by some persons and also the people operating this technology are trained persons. Now, here is the fact, the people that will matter when the future eventually evolve are the persons that design the technology for use and those that are trained on the use of it. These set of people would be the 'hotcakes' that would have higher demands.

The future in question is a time where only few skilled personnels would be demanded for by those that need them, because what is needed is beyond just the academic certification but the skill(s) an individual acquires. Here is the question, who will be needing these set of people? And why will they be needed? Okay, the fact that change is a constant factor in the world and human existence is enough. The developed countries have undergone similar change experience and are already in the future and operating therein.

WHO WILL BE RELEVANT?

Only those that are up-to-date can be relevant when the future comes. Now, the big question is, how do an individual become relevant? At this present point in time in the country, schooling is affecting education. Education does not necessarily require going to a school for an individual to be educated.

There are several online courses an individual can undergo in order to acquire some specific skills. Why going online for Education and not the schools in the country? It is obvious enough that the Educational system of the country is not performing at an average in terms of the results but below average.

Results in the sense that the products of schools in the country constitute lesser percentage of people with the needed and required knowledge. When a certified school graduate can not be employed because he or she does not have a specific skills? What is the essence of the traditional system of education? Rhetoric!

Another way of becoming relevant is getting enrolled in some private owned Enterprises that are training people to be experts and professionals in certain skills.
As it is, the future is a time where the 'ordinary' school certified graduate will be replaced by a skilled individual because what is required for operating in the future is the acquired skill(s).

However, not all skills would be welcomed, only selective skills because some skills would become obsolete when the future finally arrive, simply because the required skills are scientific and technological in scope of operation.

However, in spite of the fact that technology would emerge, it does not stand to eradicate other fields that are not scientifically oriented, only that technology would take larger percentage in the mode and scope of operation.

Hear the Clarion call so as not to be left out when the future comes to limelight for everyone to see. Are you seeing the future around you or not?
